A major U.S. telecommunications firm formulated plans to enter the wireless market with a primary goal of protecting core services revenue while increasing new product revenue.

The firm engaged NTT DATA to run the technology project management office (PMO) for a new wireless service line launch aimed at reducing customer churn and increasing profitability.

Besoin de l’entreprise

To stand up an entirely new product and be soft-launch ready within a span of 18 months, the telecommunications company identified a technology CapEx budget of $70 million. With the potential to yield $800 million in 10-year earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA), the new product could also protect an additional $1.4 billion in 10-year cumulative EBITDA on core services.

The project would require integrating 12 new partners to support business processes. These included device financing and protection, fraud management, wireless device and SIM acquisition, usage processing and international roaming.

To achieve this integration, the company needed a partner with expertise in delivering complex technology programs, the scaled agile framework (SAFe), schedule and budget management and proactive risk mitigation.

Résultats

  • Saves thousands of hours by streamlining the requirements intake and management process
  • Monitors and manages delivery progress across 20+ teams to keep delivery timeline on track
  • Resolves issues across multiple partner organizations to avoid project delays and cost overruns
  • Leverages financial models to track overall program forecast and stay on budget

Solution

NTT DATA’s tech PMO team included a lead, business architect, two project managers and two program managers who drove delivery accountability, scheduling, partner integration, improved issue/risk resolution, requirements and change management.

The project innovated a streamlined requirements intake and management process with JIRA, which saved thousands of hours beyond the wireless initiative and across the organization.

The team leveraged JIRA, Miro and Confluence for planning and close monitoring of delivery progress across more than 20 delivery teams.

NTT DATA handled partner integration project management, resolving issues across multiple organizations.

The team stayed within budget by leveraging financial models to track overall program forecast versus actual cost, identifying workstreams at risk of financial overruns or underruns.
