Hyper-automation and digital workflows empower optimization in post-pandemic digital transformation phases

We’re (finally) at a point where the world is beginning to imagine a post-pandemic state of business. A digital-first era where business and government leaders are seeking to refine their digital transformation plans, with an increased focus on optimization. ServiceNow has engineered its San Diego release to help companies do exactly that. The upgrade’s new and enhanced technology serves to drive optimization by helping leaders to improve their service efforts for people, processes, and technology across the enterprise. With its upgrades ranging from UX and UI to DevOps Change Velocity and Workspace Service Delivery, San Diego is another giant step by ServiceNow to power intelligent systems and drive process optimization efforts.

Upgrade example #1: end-to-end DevOps visibility

The DevOps application collects data across the entire set of lifecycle activities to provide visibility for DevOps teams so they can own the end-to-end process (plan, develop, build, test, deploy, and operate). Visibility across the entire DevOps toolchain, versus a single tool, exposes overall performance, including areas in the process that may need improvement.

As a result of this visibility, enterprise governance can be accelerated using DevOps, including automating change decisions.

The upgrades in San Diego include enhancements to DevOp’s System Health Dashboard, which lets the DevOps administrator view the overall health of integrations, connectivity status, as well as view trends of inbound event processing data.

With the System Health dashboard, you can visually track the health, events status, and connectivity status of your instance running DevOps. Interactive widgets provide information that enables you to view and analyze the system health and inbound event processing details of your instance.

The Tool connectivity status report displays the connectivity status with details of all the integrated tools. The tool connectivity table displays the connection status for each connected tool. A background job tries to connect to the tools every hour and maintains the connection history. You can view the historical details under a new related list on the tools page. Starting from DevOps Change Velocity version 1.33, a base system DevOps Report group is added by default. An email notification summarizing the weekly System Health report is sent to the users in this DevOps Report user group, which is specified, in the “who will receive” related list of the System Notifications Email Notifications form, as configured in the base system DevOps Health Report notification.

Also new in San Diego’s DevOps, the Pipeline UI visualizes interactions and results across a pipeline execution. This graphical view shows pipeline step progression and other details for each pipeline. Starting with this version, the Pipeline UI displays parallel stages and the real-time state of the pipeline as modeled in Azure DevOps release pipelines. The associated artifact details sourced from the build pipeline, Test Results, Software Quality Summary Results are also displayed on the pipeline UI.

Upgrade example #2: next experience UI

With the introduction of Next Experience in the Now Platform San Diego release, platform users will see all their most important work at their fingertips, across all their applications, so they can quickly dive into what’s important. Next Experience delivers modern, streamlined navigation that brings every application together under one consistent experience, and elevates Favorites and History in the navigation so that people can jump back into their most important work.

Next Experience also introduces 25 purpose‑built workspaces that feature a next‑generation visual design, surface insights with dashboards, and use machine learning to assign tasks and recommend the next best action. New workspaces include

  • CSM Configurable Workspace
  • Dispatcher Workspace
  • HR Agent Workspace
  • Cloud Operations Workspace
  • Service Operations Workspace
  • Hardware Asset Manager Workspace

Notable among the new workspace experiences is Service Operations Workspace. Initially available in San Diego for IT Service Management teams, and later expected to be available for IT Operations Management teams in Q2 2022, this new workspace will redefine how these two previously siloed organizations can work and collaborate within a single experience.
