Driving Data Further

Since 2013, NTT DATA has been delivering technology and business solutions as an Official Patron and IT Provider of The Open, the world’s oldest golf tournament event. Organized in the United Kingdom by The R&A (The Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews), our close partnership with The R&A has helped us to deliver engaging fan experiences for The Open year after year.

This includes the NTT DATA Wall that has revolutionized the experience for patrons attending the event. The massive interactive LED display, located in the Spectator Village, delivers live video from all around the venue along with compelling statistics and trends via impactful visuals, all in real time. This fan engagement also includes artificial intelligence technology to read and share the emotions of both players and fans during the event to help tailor the experience..

NTT DATA Wall: Inside the Experience at The 153rd Open

The NTT DATA Wall at The 153rd Open will be our most sophisticated and immersive installation to date. This 20-metre-wide digital canvas sits at the heart of the Spectator Village, delivering real-time data, broadcast highlights, and deeper narrative insights with stunning clarity.

This year, we’re pushing the boundaries of animation fidelity and story depth, transforming data into a living, evolving experience. Through dynamic news updates, immersive player stories and live stats, fans and spectators can get closer to the game than ever before.

For the first time, the NTT DATA Wall will feature highly produced pre-recorded video and animation content and we will be able to customize the content on the wall as play progresses, which has not previously been feasible.

For example, our new "Drive Scatter" function will place a big shot in the context of the drives that came before it on the same hole, while the new "Player Locator" widget will appear on the center panel of the wall to show where some of the leading players are playing at that moment in time, allowing fans to decide where to catch up with their favorite players as they make their way around the course.

The NTT DATA Wall represents a bold step forward in live event innovation and shows the power of technology, stories and data in elevating the drama, depth, and detail of world-class sport.

We are incredibly proud to be supporting The R&A at The Open again this year, harnessing the power of our global data and intelligence capabilities to deliver insights in real time and push the boundaries of what technology can bring to the game of golf.

In previous years, we have demonstrated the power of data and digital twin technologies in transforming experiences for fans worldwide, through the NTT DATA Wall and through ShotView. We’re excited to continue that journey this year, supporting The R&A with the same passion, precision, and commitment that has defined our partnership for more than a decade. The global scale of The Open is the ideal showcase for innovation and technology, and how these can transform experiences within both the sporting and wider business worlds.
