NTT DATA Services Blog First Responders

Protecting first responders in the field is paramount. We know they go through a lot and keeping them well is in the public’s interest, the first responders’ interest, and the employer’s interest.

How can NTT DATA help?
NTT DATA is investing in developing a predictive analytic computer solution, SMART EIS for Officer Wellness to highlight those at most risk of PTSD early, allowing timely follow-up before things get worse.

We have a background working with police agencies in the US and Canada for several decades. We know CAD, we now RMS, we know HR/Scheduling. Lately, we’ve been leveraging that experience to develop and implement Early Intervention solutions for US police agencies. Using their existing operational and administrative data, we help highlight officer trends over time that are outliers compared to their colleagues performing similar roles in similar circumstances. This was originally focused on excessive use of force but quickly grew to also gauge overall wellness and see if someone needs help.

NTT DATA brings strength in Artificial Intelligence to the game, helping you go where traditional reporting and dashboards can’t. We know when Clustering might make sense, when Classification algorithms make sense, and when Deep Learning can be justified. We know how to leverage a secure Canadian cloud while also keeping identities safe and sound in your environment.

We’re also engaging the academic world to help us avoid any biases and keep our solution in line with the latest research.

What does SMART EIS for Officer Wellness do?
In simple terms, we can work with you to look for short-term or cumulative trends in your existing operational and administrative data, compare those with your real-life examples of first responders who have suffered from PTSD, and highlight others with similar risk factors.

Examining years of Incident, Dispatch, and Report “operational” data, combined with analyzing Shift Scheduling, Time Reporting, Training, and Sick time “administrative” data, lets the system look for important factors or leading indicators that might not be obvious. Once the solution highlights situations for you to focus on, you can securely view why something was highlighted and track any follow-up actions needed.

With a history of delivering health and police systems in Canada, our teams know that privacy and security are paramount—whether we work with you in your environment, or in a secure Canadian cloud environment, we make sure identifiable officer information never leaves your environment. We only examine data that you agree can be examined.

What’s the catch?
We need to work with one or two agencies to take our starter kit and let it learn from your real-world data. We’ll do this for free and present your organization with the solution afterwards to keep with or without NTT DATA’s ongoing help.

Our computer solutions cannot diagnose or rehabilitate of course, but they can help you know where to focus your preventative and resiliency initiatives. Contact NTT DATA today and introduce to your people to the latest in PTSD technologies.
